A new market has found itself on Hong Kong Island and it’s one of the most blogged about projects of the year! Famous food blogger Janice Leung (aka e-tingfood.com) wanted to bring a local market back to the island which focused on local businesses, so she decided to take action and approach Vince Poon, the managing director of Hong Kong Markets Organization to create something that everyone can enjoy! The project already has a number of sponsors including Swire Properties, WOM and Organic Farmers Association, which is pretty impressive to say the least!
There’s over 40 stalls to explore, which include Grassroots Pantry, Classified, Homegrown Foods, Bathe to Basics, House of Fine Wines and Gourmet Food, Tai Tai Pie Pies, My Fashion Birdcage and more. The market originally started off as a place for local organic farmers to come together and sell produce, but has evolved into a place where local artists can sell their crafts and designs. All in all, it’s a great place for small and local businesses!
Island East Market is a perfect day out for everyone, which also includes face painting and even a stage area for local musical talents to perform. The market is open every Sunday until 21 October 2012 from 10am to 5pm and is conveniently located in Taikoo Place on Tong Chong Street in Quarry Bay, which is just around the corner from Quarry Bay MTR. It’s really inspiring to see a woman take action and create something that so many people can benefit from. We can’t wait visit and will certainly be checking out the locally produced arts and crafts!
